Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

A one-day training event that introduces leaders and parents to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities, particularly Pack camping. This training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning a Pack campout.  At least one BALOO Trained leader is required for Pack level camping.

Participants who complete this training course will:

  • Understand the focus of the Cub Scout level of the BSA outdoor program.
  • Gain the skills needed to plan and carry out a successful Cub Scout-level overnight activity.
  • Learn more about the resources available from the BSA for carrying out this activity.

Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders (OWL)

Camping is a cornerstone of the Webelos Scout program. Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders training is designed to help leaders learn how to provide a memorable camping experience for their Webelos Scouts and parents or guardians. This training is needed for any Webelos Den Leader to take their Webelos Den camping.

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS)

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills will provide Boy Scout leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right.

The course is also ideal for Venturing leaders because it focuses on skills that build confidence and competence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences.

Instructors will help you learn how to set up camp, cook, work with woods tools and about ropes, first aid, planning campfire programs, map reading and compass skills, hiking and packing techniques, nature identification, and Leave No Trace.
