Veteran Awards are given for each 5 years of registered scouting service to the BSA. (Youth time counts toward this award also, so do not forget to add those youth years when you are applying). A new form is required every time a new 5-year milestone is reached. This is a great way to recognize our leaders for their service over many years. The 5-year, 10-year, 15-year and 20-year awards are made by the local council and consist of a wallet sized card. 25-year and up awards are issued by National and consist of a certificate and a wallet card. These take longer to process, so submit your requests at least six weeks before the Awards Banquet to receive them in time. A link to this form can be found below:
Unit Leader Award of Merit. This award is for leaders in a unit who have shown outstanding leadership leading to a Quality Program within the unit. The Committee Chair initiates this award and for Boy Scout troops and Venture Crews, it must also be endorsed by the SPL or the Crew Chief. A link to this form can be found below:
For The Mohegan District:
It is also the time to nominate people who contribute to the district for a Mohegan District Oscar or a District Award of Merit.
The Mohegan District Oscar is for those leaders who show leadership and volunteer activity beyond the unit. – that is at the District or Council levels. Volunteer leadership outside of scouting is also a factor in determining each year’s recipients. Our district typically awards 5-6 of these awards annually. The District Award of Merit is highest award that can be awarded by a district. Nominees should already have received the Mohegan District Oscar. Again, this recognizes service beyond the unit at the district or council levels. Volunteer leadership in the community outside of scouting is an important factor in this top district award. Recoginition and nomination forms should be emailed or turned in to John Bradshaw by the April Roundtable.
