 The purpose of the Order of the Arrow is four-fold:

* To recognize those Scout campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives
* To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit
* To promote Scout camping
* To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others

Current highlights include

  • Section NE-2A Conclave, June 8-10 —  Register online before June 1 to save $10 on the 2012 Section NE-2A Conclave. This year’s Conclave will be held at Camp Strang in Goshen, CT. New OA members who complete their Ordeals this spring pay only $35 for Conclave.

  • Don’t Miss The Summit — Sign up for the 2012 Summit Shakedown or for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree, both to be held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. Participate with the Council contingent or as an OA Service Corps member. There are only three youth slots still available for this summer’s Summit Shakedown!

  • Wilawi Ordeal Weekend, Sept. 7-9 — Save the date! The Wilawi Chapter’s Fall Ordeal will be Sept. 7-9 at Camp Webster.
     
  • 2012 OA Membership Dues — Please pay your dues online or use the attached form to mail your dues to the Council offices.

UPDATE FROM CHAPTER SECRETARY



For those of you interested in attending the 2013 Scout Jamboree at the new Summit Bechtel Reserve, you can go as a member of the CT Rivers Council Contingent for a total cost of $1,350. You can sign up on the following website by clicking “Getting Started”: www.bsajamboree.org. Programs at the jamboree include BMX biking, challenge courses, canopy tours, fly fishing, technology quest, whitewater rafting, and so much more!

You can also attend the jamboree by being a member of the OA Service Corps. Arrowmen may sign up to be a member of the OA Service Corps, an OA Trek Guide, or a Day of Service crew leader. Members will serve through leadership and cheerful service, and also be able to experience many of the exciting programs at the jamboree, and for a fee much smaller than that of the typical attendee! Another event coming up is the OA Section NE-2A ConclaveExternal Link hosted by the Housatonic Council. It will be held June 8-10, 2012 at Camp Strang in Groshen, Connecticut.  Registration and info click above.

Gengras Motors will be hosting a council-wide Pinewood Derby event on April 15 -- EVENT CANCELLED -- The OA has been asked to help out at the event with weighing in the cars, running the concession stand, and other necessary jobs. If you are able to help out, please contact Mr. Bancroft at (860) 633-2216 or by email at wilawichapter@gmail.com.

The Wilawi Chapter needs more OA Representatives!  Representatives are OA members responsible for representing their troop at the monthly Chapter meetings and then relaying news about the OA back to their troop. We need more of you to show up to our meetings and get the word out to the troops. The Wilawi Chapter meetings are held the first Monday of each month at the LDS Church, 30 Woodland Street, Manchester, CT from 7:30-9:00. We would love to see more of you at our meetings!

For those of you interested in registering for NOAC 2012 on July 30-August 4, the registration form are available online

The OA is looking for youth volunteers to help out at the 2013 National Scout Jamboree on July 15-24, 2013. If you are interested, please fill out an interest form at www.event.oa-bsa.org. There will be a "Project 2013" training at NOAC 2012 that’s recommended for all volunteers.

YOUTH CHAPTER MEETINGS

The Wilawi Chapter OA invites youth members to attend our monthly meetings on each first Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the LDS Church, 30 Woodside St, in Manchester.  Plans are discussed for unit elections, ordeal weekends and other OA activities.

Whether you are an elected OA representative from your troop, or an individual member, this is an opportunity to participate and improve the chapter.

Meetings are held at the same time and location as the adult leaders roundtable meeting, but in a separate room, and boys often ride with unit adults.

 


TROOP OA REPRESENTATIVE

The Order of the Arrow Troop Representative is a youth liaison serving between the local OA lodge or chapter and his troop.  In his unit, he helps meet the needs of the unit and will serve as a communication link to and from Arrowmen, adult leaders and Scouts who are not presently members of the Order.

The badge worn is an official troop position, The youth is appointed by the SPL with SM approval.

 OA YOUTH MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

 To be eligible for membership in the Order of the Arrow, a Scout must:

  • Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America under the age of 21.
  • Hold the First Class rank of the Boy Scouts of America, as a minimum.
  • Have experienced at least 15 days and nights of Boy Scout camping during the two-year period prior to the election.   The 15 days and nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps.
  • Have the approval of his unit leader. The unit leader must certify his Scout spirit (i.e., his adherence to the Scout Oath and Law and active participation in unit activities).

Every Troop and Team may schedule one election each year. Schedule an election for your unit today!



ELECTIONS

Troops may annually elect qualified youth campers as candidates for the Order of the Arrow.  Procedures and details for elections are (below).  For the Wilawi chapter, elections are being coordinated by Neal Montgomery  email [Click for member's page]

Download and submit Election Request Form to prepare for, and arrange for an election at your unit. This is a newer version 7 pdf, you should be able to type data on the screen, and print it. Print an extra copy for your file, because it apparently will not save.

Please mail complete election results ASAP to chapter Advisor Mr. Bancroft, 244 Buttonball Lane, Glastonbury, CT  08033.
