New England Air Museum Opens Its Doors and Hangars For Cub Scouts May 19th

Have a fun day of aviation activities and advancements and then sleep among historic aircraft at the New England Air Museum on May 19-20.  For the first time ever the Connecticut Air Museum is opening its doors to the Connecticut Rivers Council.  Take this opportunity to have fun and learn amid some of the coolest antique aircraft and automobiles that you can encounter.

 

Reservations will be taken on a first-come first-served basis. Cost is $45 per person.  A $25 per person non-refundable down payment is required to  hold a reservation.  An optional meal plan (dinner and breakfast) is available for $20 (otherwise you must bring your own meals.   In addition, the New England Air Museum will provide the name and phone number of several nearby restaurants for you to purchase food from if you desire to.

This is a great opportunity to provide a year end program element for a pack, den, or for you and that special Cub Scout in your life.

 

At this event your Scouts (and you) can:

  • Attend special demonstrations,
  • Experience the pilot’s view and sit in the open cockpits,
  • hands-on build-and fly activities,
  • sleeping in the Exhibit Hangar with the aircraft.

Schedule:

2:30 – 5:00 p.m. Visit New England Air Museum

  • Meet Aircraft badge requirements by completing the Cub Scout
  • Guide to Exploring Aviation at the New England Air Museum
  • Build and fly a water rocket.

3:30- 4:00 Special demonstration by Canine Unit of Airport Police
5:00 May unload vehicles and bring sleeping gear into center of Military Hangar. (Please do not roll out sleeping gear until 8:00 p.m.)
5:30-6:30 Food delivered. Unit order or purchase meals through www.ctrivers.org .  - Eat dinner at tables set up in the Education Center.
6:30 Open Cockpits (aircraft will be open for you to visit) – Great photo opp.!
8:00 Spread out sleeping gear and change into comfortable clothes
8:15 Special Presentation by Dr. Flush, Life in Space
9:30 Settle down with Pack
10:00 Lights out

 

Sunday, May 20th
7:30 a.m. Wake up call
7:30-8:30 Breakfast at tables
8:30 Pack up and clean up
9:00 Gift shop opens

Please plan to leave the Museum by 10:00 a.m.
