Aviation Merit Badge Workshop Offered
The New England Air Museum offers Aviation Merit Badge workshops in partnership with the Connecticut Rivers Council. These workshops provide scouts with an opportunity to fulfill all requirements for the Aviation Merit Badge in one fun-filled day at the New England Air Museum. The workshops run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the cost is $35 per scout, $12.50 per accompanying parent/chaperone. Each workshop is limited to 12 scouts, and all participating scouts must be accompanied by a parent/adult chaperone to participate in the workshop. A brown bag (i.e. non-refrigerated) lunch is recommended as there is no onsite food service.
- Scouts must acquire and read the Aviation Merit Badge Handbook prior to attending the workshop. In order to fulfill Aviation Merit Badge requirements, scouts must understand complex scientific concepts that are not usually taught in schools until the 8th grade. Therefore, reading the Aviation Merit Badge handbook prior to attending the workshop is key to successfully earning the badge.
- Scouts must know how to use a compass with a map. Scouts are encouraged to practice at troop meetings if needed.
- Scouts must have completed Second Class requirements 1a and 1b.
- Scouts must be at least 12 years old.
A partial will be given to scouts who do not have sufficient knowledge of each requirement when asked by a counselor.
